JECKELLS
THE SAILMAKERS
In May 2006 when we were fitting out Sybaris we ordered a Mizzen
sail from Jeckells on advise from David Hartley in Lavrio
Greece. The sail was made in a very timely manner and turned out
to be a very nice sail.
In October 2007 while sailing in SE Turkey the old genoa
(probably the original sail, i.e. 20 years old) broke on the
clew. I had thought about getting a new sail for some time
already, and had checked out a few quotes but decided to wait.
We now suddenly needed a new sail fast, and had no time to wait
anywhere as we were sailing with the Vasco da Gama rally.
A phone call to Jeckells confirmed what David told me last
year. They are the best. They promised to deliver the sail in 10
days to Larnaca Cyprus. The sail got there 2 days ahead of
schedule.
Jeckells sails are not cheap but some people regard them as
the "Rolls Rolls" of sails. Like with many things you
get what you pay for. The service is excellent, phone calls are
answered real quick, delivery in our case was incredible, you
can discuss the design and material with people that know what
they are doing, and only the best materials are used. To prove
that they are built to last, they come with a 5 year guarantee.
We chose Marblehead which is a very tight knit sail cloth with
very little resin. |
